TIPS TO LOOK OUT FOR BEFORE YOU BUY A SMARTPHONES..

After posting about the Top 10 Must Have Apps last week, i got an email requesting me on what to look out for when buying a new phone..i have gathered a few tips to look out for and i have tried to do away with geeky jargon. i hope it helps:

1. Operating system

There are 4 major operating systems: Android. I Phone OS, Windows Os and Blackberry Os. Choose the one fits you the best but word of advice, IOS only operates on Apple phones, Blackberry OS doesn't have lots for apps but its good for messaging and email. My recommendation is Google android.

2. Original or Fake
Many phones that are being sold in our streets are not originals. What do I mean?? They may look like the original, boxed in a similar box as the original but the only way to identify an original is by checking whether the IMEI (International Mobile Equipment Identity) number on the phone is similar to one on the box. To do this you can find the IMEI number on the products packaging, under the phones battery or by pressing *#06# on the phone and immediately a 14 digit code will be displayed, thats the IMEI number. (I WILL BE WRITING MORE ON THIS IN MY FUTURE POST)

3. Ram

I would prefer nothing less than 3GB. of ram (Ram is the processing power) However, 2gb is not bad unless you are a gamer like my small bro, some apps will tend to lag.

4. Storage
This is where most manufacturers lie most. What they state on the box is the not the actual storage capacity available. I would recommend a 16GB internal storage going up plus an expandable storage. Be careful to check if the phone has micro Sd card slot

5. Camera

In this day and age, a good camera is a right. Cameras are measured in terms of megapixel. I would recommend nothing less than a 8 megapixel although to be safe at least 13 megapixel on the rear camera. A front camera is an added advantage. Hint Nokia have the best cameras.

6. Screen size

I will leave this for your preference but I will say, anything more than a 6 inches is a showoff (lakini kila nyani na sterehe zake). A standard phone should have at least 5 inches- this is the diagonal distance across your display screen. The other thing about display screens is the pixel. 1080 pixel is the best currently.

7. Simcard slot
This needs some consideration. Some smart phones use Micro or even nano sim-cards.

8. Cost
Some phones are overrated especially on our streets. I would also not advise you to buy a phone on loan or credit, trust me before you finish paying the interest, a better version of the phone will have been released and you will go I wish I waited. Just save, don’t rush, patience.

Thanks..keep the comments coming. Peace
